Incoming “border czar” details Trump administration’s plans to handle illegal immigration

Tom Homan, President-elect Donald Trump’s choice for “border czar,” detailed on Monday some of his plans to handle illegal immigration.

“Worksite operations have to happen,” Homan said on “Fox and Friends.” “Where do we find most victims of sex trafficking and forced labor trafficking? At work sites. And the Biden administration shut down work sites … On one point, they say we care about sex trafficking and human trafficking, then they shut down work site enforcement, which is one of the main areas we find the victims of this.”

Homan defended pushback against deportations, emphasizing the legal recourse that people can take in immigration court.

“As far as the people going to push back on deporting these people, what is the option? You have the right to claim asylum. You have the right to see a judge. We make that happen. But at the end of that due process, if the judge says you must go home, then we have to take them home. ‘Cause if we’re not, what the hell are we doing? If the judge’s order doesn’t mean anything, then shut down immigration court,” Homan said.

Homan expressed disdain toward sanctuary cities, which are jurisdictions that have policies in place designed to limit cooperation with or involvement in federal immigration enforcement actions. He said that he hopes local police in these cities will cooperate with the incoming administration but noted Trump’s history of using the Department of Justice to sue these cities.

“Sanctuary cities are sanctuaries for criminals,” Homan said.

Under the first Trump administration, Homan served as acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
