US Election 2024 live: Kamala Harris and Donald Trump wrapped up this year’s presidential race with a heated battle for Pennsylvania on Monday, making their final appeals to voters in a state that could be pivotal in deciding the next president. Harris ended her day in Philadelphia at the iconic steps of the art museum, made famous by the movie Rocky, where she declared, “the momentum is on our side.” Earlier, she had visited Allentown, Scranton, and Pittsburgh, and made a stop in Reading to connect with voters at a Puerto Rican restaurant, even canvassing door-to-door alongside campaign volunteers.
Following remarks from his children Don Jr, Eric, and Tiffany, Trump closed out his final event of the 2024 election with promises to boost economic growth and attacks on immigrants and his political rivals.
Both Kamala Harris and Donald Trump targeted Gen-Z voters as they campaigned ahead of the election, many of whom will be voting for the first time today.
Columbia University’s Columbia Magazine found that Gen Z make up more than 40 million voters, including eight million new voters.
And social media’s influence on these voters cannot be underestimated, according to Aidan Kohn-Murphy, founder of advocacy group Gen-Z for Change. He told CNN that TikTok has helped inform many young people about the presidential candidates and their campaigns.
“They put America last, we put America first,” he said.
“The silent majority is back and tomorrow you need to get out and vote,” he added, attacking his rivals as “the most sinister and corrupt forces on Earth”.
Rosalyn LaPier still shudders when she thinks of the abandoned, windowless Victorian manor that sat next to a tiny chapel on the Montana reservation where she grew up.
While Harris focused on optimism for the future and avoided mentioning Trump by name, the Republican nominee did not hold back, repeatedly attacking his opponent. His running mate, Ohio Senator JD Vance, echoed the sentiment during his own rally in Atlanta, declaring, “We are going to take out the trash in Washington, D.C., and the trash’s name is Kamala Harris.”
Some weekends, as a child, LaPier would pass by the gloomy estate on her way to a local cemetery to pay respects to deceased relatives. Along the way, her grandparents would tell stories of the atrocities they endured and witnessed inside the foreboding property.
Israel’s war on Gaza has grown increasingly unpopular in the United States, especially among young Americans.
Still, both the Democrat and Republican leadership have insisted they fully support Israel, even as they offer some calls for an end to the conflict, which has spread to Lebanon.
